Student Scholarship Program

West Texas Rehab Center offers a scholarship program for students who desire to work for WTRC upon graduation. This scholarship includes a monthly stipend that can be used on personal or school expenses and an early commitment bonus.  Please contact Jessi Bailey, HR Director, at jbailey@wtrc.com for more information on this program.

Don Richburg Memorial College Scholarship

To be eligible to apply for the Don Richburg Memorial College Scholarship, an applicant must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be enrolled in a high school for the current year.
  • Be a current year graduating Senior.
  • Must have participated in the West Texas Rehab Livestock Show Program by donating, buying, showing or working at one of the events.
  • Have a minimum of at least an eighty (80) GPA for the first three and one-half (3.5) years of high school.
  • Submit a copy of the student’s transcript for the first three and one-half (3.5) years of the student’s high school career.
  • Submit a typed, fully completed application by April 1, 2024.
  • Recipients must enroll in a college, university or technical school the fall semester following their graduation from high school.
  • Scholarship monies will be distributed to the financial aid officer of the college, university or technical school of the recipient upon West Texas Rehab receiving verification of enrollment in the fall semester.

Recipient of the funds for the scholarship will be determined by the West Texas Rehab Selection Committee. All funds collected in any given year do not have to be awarded and may be placed in an account to draw interest for future scholarships.

Woody's Kids Scholarship

Funded by generous donations from employees, donors and other friends of the Rehab, the Woody's Kids Scholarship fund honors the legacy that Woody Gilliland created during his tenure as WTRC President and CEO.  The scholarship selection committee awards a $5,000 scholarship to a current or previous patient who is entering or currently enrolled in a post high school program (college, technical school, etc)    Applications are due May 1st.

To be eligible to apply for the Woody’s Kids Scholarship, an applicant must meet the following qualifications:

Eligibility:

  • Be enrolled in a high school or college for the current year.
  • Be a current year graduating high school Senior or enrolled in college for the next year.
  • Have a minimum of at least an 80 GPA or 3.2 on a 4.0 scale for the first 3-1/2 years of high school, or a 3.2 college GPA.
  • Current or previous patient at West Texas Rehabilitation Center.

Requirements:

  • Submit a copy of the student’s transcript for the first 3-1/2 years of the student’s high school career or current college career.
  • Submit a fully completed application by May 1, 2023.

Abilene: Camp Rehab Buddy Scholarship

To be eligible to apply for the Camp Rehab Buddy College Scholarship, an applicant must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be a current high school graduate and/or currently enrolled in college.
  • Must have participated in the West Texas Rehab’s Camp Rehab as a volunteer buddy.
  • Have a minimum of at least an 80 GPA for the first 3-1/2 years of high school, or a 3.2 college GPA.
  • Submit a copy of the student’s transcript for the first 3-1/2 years of the student’s high school career or current college career.
  • Submit a fully completed application by July 1, 2023.
  • Recipients must enroll in a college, university or technical school the Fall semester of current year.
  • Scholarship monies will be distributed to the financial aid officer of the college, university or technical school of the recipient upon West Texas Rehab receiving verification of enrollment in the fall semester.

San Angelo: The Barney & Loleta Barnhart Scholarship

To be eligible to apply for The Barney & Loleta Barnhart Scholarship, an applicant must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be a current high school graduate and/or currently enrolled in college.
  • Must have participated in the West Texas Rehab Summer Day Camp in San Angelo as a volunteer buddy.
  • Have a minimum of at least an 80 GPA for the first 3-1/2 years of high school, or a 3.2 college GPA.
  • Submit a copy of the student’s transcript for the first 3-1/2 years of the student’s high school career or current college career.
  • Submit a fully completed application by July 10, 2023.
  • Recipients must enroll in a college, university or technical school the Fall semester of current year.
  • Scholarship monies will be distributed to the financial aid officer of the college, university or technical school of the recipient upon West Texas Rehab receiving verification of enrollment in the fall semester.
