Representatives from West Texas Rehabilitation Center and Hospice of San Angelo announced this week that the two non-profit health care providers will be merging on March 1, 2018, resulting in West Texas Rehab’s Hospice of San Angelo.
WTRC is a leading force in rehabilitation services across West Texas. HOSA is a leader in hospice care to residents in a fifteen-county area. The merger has come about so that the two successful non-profits can combine resources and collaborate, enhancing their impact and benefiting the communities they serve.
WTRC was established as a private, non-profit corporation in 1953 in one location with one therapist treating seventeen patients. Now WTRC serves thousands of children and adults in three different locations across West Texas, offering outpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, audiology, orthotics and prosthetics, as well as hospice care in the Abilene area following its merger with Hospice of the Big Country in 2000.
Hospice of San Angelo was established by the Junior League in 1985 as the 13th hospice in Texas. HOSA moved into its home on the eleventh floor of the Cactus Hotel in 1996, acquired the Landy House in 1996 as the center of its bereavement services, and acquired property on South Chadbourne in 2017 to house durable medical equipment (DME). HOSA provides services of clinical teams, licensed social workers, chaplains, DME technicians, trained volunteers, and bereavement counselors. Hospice of San Angelo is the only non-profit hospice in the Concho Valley.
“March 1st will be a great day in the history of these two outstanding organizations. This partnership will enable us to provide a full continuum of rehabilitation and hospice services to all who need them here in the Concho Valley and continue to build on our legacy of service to the community regardless of financial circumstances.”
Steve Martin, West Texas Rehab Center President/CEO
“The board and staff of HOSA could not be more pleased about joining forces with such a phenomenal community focused organization. The missions of each non-profit are so similar, this merger just made sense. We look forward to our future with WTRC as we become united in serving the Concho Valley. Together we can have an even greater impact on the communities we serve.”
Corey Peddy, Hospice of San Angelo Board Chair
West Texas Rehab’s Hospice of San Angelo will focus on continuing the mission of both organizations, which is to provide the highest quality of care to all those who need it regardless of financial circumstances.
